NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

For those who of you who read this page regularly, you may have noted that recently, there are many

more newspaper articles on West Papua posted here, than there have been in the past.

Not all the articles are favourable to the West Papuan Self Determination and Independence cause and in fact some are

straight out Indonesian propaganda and most West Papuans will find these articles particularly articles offensive.

This is especially so to those individuals who have had loved ones killed by the Indonesian Military

and Police.

I particularly refer to newspaper articles from the Jakarta Post newspaper.

It is also very important that a historical record be kept of the West Papuan fight for Independence.  Part of this historical record is what the Indonesian Government says and feeds to its own people as propaganda on the issue of West Papuan Independence and related issues.

One of the options open to West Papuans, is to pursue a case before the United Nations and the World Court, for an Independent West Papua.  It is in this forum that historical records become very important, not only as a tool of research, but aslo as to what the Indonesians would be likely to argue as a counterclaim.

The WPNGNC  is in the process of building up a reliable historical archive for all West Papuans and the world to see.

At the moment there is a comprehensive archive of newspaper articles on another site - they go back to July, 2000.  As we do not have control of this site, it has been decided to transfer this archive to this site, as a security measure to prevent them being lost for all time. There are several thousand newspaper articles involved and we anticipate that this task will take a few months to complete.

It is the WPNGNC's aim to maintain the most comprehensive and up to date web site on West Papua.
