If you browse through enough West Papuan web sites and newspaper articles on the net you will no doubt come across this term "Zone of Peace" or "Land of Peace". Whilst this idea may appear to be attractive for those individuals with the interests of the West Papuan peoples in mind, it must be remembered that these terms are the brainchild of the Indonesians. Indonesia purports to want peace whilst practicing genocide on the West Papuan indigenous population. This genocide is ongoing.
Many well intentioned individuals and West Papuan support groups have picked up this term and have promoted its ideal. It is only when you determine who is promoting the idea and what they are doing in reality, that you realize that it is a cruel hoax perpetrated on the West Papuan people. It is also used as a ploy to hide the Indonesian military's true intentions.
Misinformation is an old and tried tactic used by brutal, ruthless and murderous governments in order to achieve their long term goals. The Indonesian long term goal is to annihilate the West Papuan indigenous population. West Papua is resource rich and the Indonesians simply want its resources. I believe Indonesia also has its eyes on Papua New Guinea and it is in its long term interests to promote unrest within that country.
The Indonesian Military and its offshoots are brutal and corrupt. They run various business enterprises on the side and are heavily involved in graft and corruption. The military is closely aligned to a group of wealth families called "the elite". These wealthily families have amassed millions if not billions of dollars in assets. Much of the aid money given to Indonesia by donor countries finds it way to these individuals. You name it they are into it - drugs, illegal logging, wildlife trafficking and the list goes on and on.
Most Indonesians are decent people, it is just their system of government and military is corrupt and cruel. Countries like the US, Australia and Japan take a rather simplistic attitude to Indonesia and their foreign policy relationship. The real message in this simplistic attitude is now slowly getting through.
This raises the question on how can I check the bona fide of an individual or support group? The simple answer is you don't know for sure. There are several dead giveaways to suspect the bona fide of a support group or individual. Most have a web site.
Check the web site for terms such as "Zone of Peace" or "Land of Peace". Another piece of misinformation promoted by the Indonesians is the fact that "100,000 have been killed". in the conflict with Indonesia. The real figure is close to "1 million and could be as high as 2 million killed" by the Indonesians. Be suspicious of any web sites promoting the 100,000 figure.
As part of the process of gaining control of West Papua, the Indonesians introduced the concept of "Special Autonomy". In order to promote this concept the Indonesians introduced "The Presidium" as a supposed form of giving the West Papuans a say in their future. They used West Papuan lackeys or puppets who lacked the support of the West Papuan people. The terms "Special Autonomy or Autonomy" and "Presidium" have been so discredited and exposed as Indonesian fronts (thanks to the efforts of the WPNGNC) that they are rarely used any more. What I can say for sure is that if you see the terms "Presidium" or "Special Autonomy or Autonomy" currently used on any web site then you can be 99.9% sure it is an Indonesian front organization.
See our media articles where West Papuan Baptist Minister and other church groups equate "Special Autonomy" with Indonesian sponsored genocide.
There have been in the past some well intentioned individuals who have aligned themselves or offered support to "The Presidium". These individuals were the subject of a cruel Indonesian hoax. There are also several individuals who claim to be former commanders of the "OPM" or "FPM - Free Papua Movement". I can say with 100% certainty that all such claims are false and the bona fide of these individuals is very doubtful.
The Indonesians have also hijacked some legitimate West Papuan slogans and ideals. One example is the ideal "One People One Soul". This is an old OPM slogan which is not used anymore by the OPM or other legitimate West Papuan support groups. If you see this slogan be very suspicious of the bona-fide of the web site. See this site for instance and note the logo in the top right hand corner.
I AM SORRY DR JOHN HAS TAKEN DOWN HIS SITE - SO HERE IT IS HERE.
Recent revelations that the Indonesian Military and the Military backed Militias have strong connections with Laskar Jihad which in turn is part of the Al-Qaeda network should be of particular concern. See our main index page for details of these connections.
One of our representatives was recently contacted by the US FBI, in relation to the Rick Spier murder, in August 2002 and it was only when a lengthily conversation took place that one realizes how ill-informed the US FBI and CIA is, on issues involving West Papua.
The West Papuan people are peaceful. They have the right to exist and not be murdered by a brutal and corrupt Indonesian force. Their only method of survival has been to fight back the Indonesians. The OPM has been on military stand down for about five years. There have been sporadic instances where the Indonesian military have been resisted. and illegal loggers eliminated. Their patience is quickly running out and the cruel hoaxes carried out by the Indonesian military have had the effect of destroying what little credibility the Indonesians had. International support for the West Papuans is growing daily. It is the long term goal of the WPNGNC to co-ordinate as many support groups as possible with the eventual aim of gaining West Papuan "Independence". So the story goes on............
